Puppy socialisation and the prevention of behavioural problems

Dog owners are increasingly aware of the importance of socialisation in ensuring a puppy is friendly and well-adjusted. Socialisation involves meeting and having pleasant experiences and encounters with as many adults, children and animals as possible. It is important to start socialisation during the first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life, when it is at its most sensitive, and continue throughout adulthood.
The most common cause of fear and aggression is lack of socialisation and behavioural problems often originate from fearful dogs. Indeed, behavioural issues are the most common cause of euthanasia in dogs under two years of age
